Yes—this is a scam. We've received multiple reports about individuals promoting services like www.petmap.live, claiming they can help you find your lost pet. These scammers typically ask you text a number like (562) 710-7772 or (213) 874-6444 and then will ask you to fill out an application. They then request an upfront payment before they will "begin helping" with the search.
Please do not engage with these services or send them any money.
At Petco Love Lost, we do not charge for lost pet alerts, searches, or community support. If you’re ever unsure whether a message or service is legitimate, trust your instincts—when in doubt, don’t engage. Below are a few example emails sent from a scammer. They will do their best to sound real, empathetic and seem to have all the answers if you question them.
Remember: never pay anyone anything until your pet is safely back in your arms.
If you need help verifying a message or want to report suspicious activity, feel free to reach out to our support team at lostandfound@petcolove.org.
